FAQs

Does my stained glass contain lead?

The traditional way of making Tiffany style stained glass does involve using lead solder to join the pieces of glass together, however Beacon Design Studio DOES NOT use leaded solder and is relatively safe to handle. We still recommend washing your hands after handling because there are light chemical polishes used to protect the solder lines and glass in the final cleaning step.

Can I hang my stained glass with a suction cup?

Under NO CIRCUMSTANCE do we recommend hanging your stained glass with suction cups (or command strips), including heavy duty suction cups. Stained glass pieces that use twine, cord, or ribbon can be hung from a window latch if desired. Large pieces of stained glass can be heavy and need to be securely affixed to a window frame or a stud. These pieces will include a jack chain and a hook.

Can I clean my stained glass?

If your stained glass piece gets dusty over time, gently wipe the dust and polish the piece with a clean microfiber or glass lens cleaning cloth. DO NOT use chemical cleaners as your stained glass is polished and there could be adverse chemical interactions. Some of our pieces use foil overlays that are more delicate so take care when polishing those spots as to not lift or move the overlay by using a cotton swab instead.

I’m noticing something weird going on with the solder lines…

Solder lines can change over time. Silver solder may appear darker, while black lines may appear more grey and faded. Sometimes a white crust can develop along solder lines. If you’ve tried re-polishing with a microfiber cloth and aren’t satisfied with the results, please contact us directly so we can further help you!
